There are many elements between your computer and the Internet, which together enable the provision of broadband to you. Here, we identify these elements and provide an intriguing insight into the world of broadband.

Your computer is connected to a router which is plugged into a microfilter (or splitter). The microfilter is a small device that plugs directly into your phone socket and separates the telephone’s voice traffic from the router’s data traffic, thus enabling you to simultaneously have a telephone conversation and browse the Internet. The phone socket your microfilter is plugged into may be the main socket into the building (recommended) or an extension socket.

A copper wire phone line connects your main phone socket to the local telephone exchange. The quality of the copper varies and therefore determines the maximum speeds your broadband connection can operate at. The length of the line is also relevant because connections over 4km long generally prevent the provision of synchronous services; and connections over

6km generally results in a deterioration of signal quality too high for any broadband services to be provided at all.

Broadband equipment in your local telephone exchange connects to your router to enable information to be sent and received at broadband speeds. The equipment in the telephone exchange is also connected to your Internet Service Providers (ISP) equipment. Therefore, in order for you gain access to the Internet, you must have a contract with an ISP.

We will provide you with:
A resilient, reliable and high-performance service
  Excellent customer service
Just a 1 month minimum contract period

Finally, your broadband username and password are used for authentication when connecting to your ISP in order to grant you access to the Internet.

The main benefits of joining Fincomp

Broadband delivery

At Fincomp, we feel that value for money is of greatest importance, so we pay the small additional premium for using BT’s main network in order to provide customers with resilient, high performance and more reliable services.

Customer service

All of our support staff are fully trained engineers, and not simply call centre operatives reading from computer screens. Consequently, we can deal with all support calls quickly and competently.

One month contracts

The high quality of the service we provide means we don’t have to look for the reassurance of tying customers down to twelve or even eighteen month contracts. Instead, we use just one month rolling contracts, thereby giving customers maximum flexibility.
